of the Carolinas

Welcome to the C6 Corner.  I am a retired GM employee.  I transferred to Charlotte from Chicago in 1999 and helped to open a new parts facility. I took advantage of an early retirement opportunity in 2001. We decided to stay in the Carolinas - beautiful weather, friendly people, and a great place to live. Only one thing was missing - you guessed it - a Corvette. I purchased a beautiful low mileage C4 convertible which I drove for several years. I thought it couldn’t get any better until I test drove a new C6 last year. Prior to the test drive in order to convince my wife Linda of the advantages of C6 ownership I sited the following reasons:  great gas mileage, side air bags, great gas mileage, value retention, great gas mileage, fun car to drive, great gas mileage, takes up less space in the garage -  did I mention great gas mileage?

Once she sat and rode in the C6 she realized how comfortable it was all of my reasons were no longer relevant.  We purchased a new 2007 Lemans Blue coupe.

Some owners prefer not to modify their cars. I understand that completely.  These cars are beautiful as they come off the assembly line. However I chose to personalize my C6. My mods include:

-          Z06 style wheels, O.E. performance, 8 mm offset. (I like the look of a little wider stance)

-          Cat. Back exhaust tuned for paddle shifter with four inch tips (from GHL)

-          Painted door handle guards and rear spoiler - same as body color (*)

-          Stainless steel rear name plate

-          3M clear shield on the front fascia, headlights, mirrors, wheel well openings  (this is a

great product and well worth the money – about $495.00 installed).

-         Had the C6 logo embroidered on rear security cover ($45.00)

-         I took the center console lid to a local upholstery shop and had it covered with a better grade

of vinyl and padded with dense foam ($75.00).  No more calluses on my right elbow!  (I use the center console to gain leverage to propel myself out of the car).

(*)  If anyone needs information on how to remove the rear spoiler, please e-mail me.

I encourage everyone to think carefully before doing mods.  Sometimes it’s best to see it done on other cars before making your final decision.

Corvette owners are well read.  I’m sure you are all aware of the improvements on the 2008 model (6.2 liter engine, 430 or 436 HP with exhaust option, faster shift time with paddle shifter, steering improvements, upgraded interior, and new wheel design). Two new colors have been added –

Jet-Stream Blue and Crystal Red. Two of my favorite colors have been discontinued - Lemans Blue and Monterey Red.

The performance of these cars is legendary and we enjoy driving our C6. The other part of Corvette ownership for us is meeting and making new friends, sharing experiences, and feeling you are part of an extended family.
